The COVID-19 pandemic is having far-reaching negative  socio-economic implications both locally and globally, in this regard the issues of (un)employment and education among women and youth residing in regions have become even more pressing.

High rates of unemployment and the consecutive brain drain are the major problems hampering the development of secondary cities of Armenia. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO) 2020 report, in 2018, youth unemployment stood at 27% contributing to the emigration of the youth to the capital Yerevan or abroad in a search for jobs. Same situation is observed in the green city of Stepanavan where lack of economic activity hinders city development and the city loses its future, in terms of the migrating youth.

To address the above-mentioned challenges, Kolba Lab has launched paid internship opportunity at Stepanavan Medical Center during July-September period, targeting girls and women residing in Lori region.

The internship offers recent graduates or last –year students of medical professions to have pass practical professional internship at a medical center during the summer months. If you are interested, please fill out the short online application form by July 1st. The medical center can host interns of various specialisations, however the number of interns is limited, the selection will be made on a competitive basis. UNDP will not cover relocation and accomodation expenses.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Kolba’s team at hasmik.soghomonyan@undp.org  and/or nelli.minasyan@undp.org.

The initiative is part of “City Experiment Fund’s Talent Nests: Small Cities for People” project, funded by Slovak Ministry of Finance and “Accelerating women’s empowerment for economic resilience and renewal – the post COVID-19 reboot in Armenia” project, funded by MPTF and implemented by UNDP/Kolba Lab.
