As we all realized, October in Armenia was fully a #Tech month. World Congress on Information Technologies, FAST Foundation’s Global Innovation Forum, and many other big and small events took place during October, making everyone’s schedule busy with vast amount of new knowledge and skills.

We at Kolba decided to use this opportunity and dedicate our next event on unique professions to a Cybersecurity specialist. The topic is not only in high demand, but the profession itself is becoming more and more important and much needed in the quick evolving technological world, with the fourth industrial revolution on its way.

A lot of professions that have high demand usually require a combination of certain skills and knowledge, which is not possible to gain by studying only one specific profession.
As information technologies are becoming part of all areas in our lives, it creates many opportunities, but also brings some risks and challenges with it, thus making the profession of cybersecurity specialist a demanding and valuable one. There are no predetermined directions in this field, the possibilities are many and each of them are interesting.

Our event on talk on cybersecurity took place on October 25th, where we also discussed the employment opportunities for these specialists, the prospects in the local and international markets.

We also had a handful of amazing speakers from the field, who shared both their perspectives and knowledge on this topic, by making it more exciting for the interested participants to learn more about this profession.

The speakers were: Samvel Martirosyan, who is involved in many fields connected to information. He is the head of ArmSec foundation, and co-founder of CiviCERT-AM. He works in various areas of information security, both in cybersecurity and in security related to content, including facts-checking and spreading of fake news.

Antranig Vartanian, a Unix guy, security engineer who worked at Armenia’s National CERT for 2 years and now runs EVN CERT. Founded illuria security, a company that automates honeypots to capture hackers more efficiently.

And Artur Papyan, the director of Media Diversity Institute – Armenia, the country representative for Techsoup and a co-founder of the CiviCERT.am team. Artur also works as a freelance IT auditor, IT and Media researcher and consultant. In the past he has worked as a senior multimedia editor with RFE/RL’s Armenian Service and a key member of its live Internet TV team, and as such he has reported on Armenia’s top stories, and streamed live video from major international events like Euromaidan in Ukraine, EaP and NATO summits and other major events. In recent years he has taught online media, internet journalism, and professional ethics at a number of Armenian universities.

It was a yet another productive meeting on a specific future oriented profession. Stay tuned for more updates on unique professions.
